Matt has extensive experience prosecuting vaporizer patents, and the work has taken him deep into the engineering that governs how any device turns a substance into something a person can inhale. He has experience prosecuting heating and atomization architecture, including conduction, convection, and the tradeoffs between them, as well as airflow paths and draw dynamics, where small geometry changes produce large performance differences.

He studied chemistry at the University of Chicago before he studied law, which helps at the point where mechanical design collides with formulation and materials. That is where a lot of good inventions live, and where a lot of patent applications go wrong.

Matt regularly works alongside other attorneys. Lerner David has practiced intellectual property law, and only intellectual property law, since 1969. He steps in for diligence during a transaction, clearance ahead of a product launch, or portfolio work at a company that has never had formal IP counsel, and he treats the relationship with referring counsel as one worth protecting.
